Ebates Scam?

Let me assure you that Ebates is not a scam! It might seem too good to be true, but you really can get cash back for shopping online, and there is no catch. Online merchants pay Ebates a commission for sending you to their site, and Ebates shares some of that commission to pay you cash back on your purchase.

Some people have posted things online talking about an Ebates scam and saying they did not receive a check yet. You should not let this deter you from signing up. People who make these comments usually misunderstood the payout terms. If you have less than $5.01 in your account, your balance will be carried over to the next payment period. If you have more than $5 in your account, you will get a check at the next payout date. They pay out every 3 months, so you may not get your money right away, but you will get it.

If you need proof that there is no Ebates scam, I have scanned a check that I received recently. It’s only for $10 because I had not shopped much over the summer, and I actually forgot that I had a check coming at all. It was a nice surprise when it came in the mail, even though it was not for much. But hey it was $10 I did not have before, so I’m not complaining.

You can sign up for Ebates by clicking the sign up box above. I’ll explain more about how it works if you are still a little unsure about signing up. If you shop online a lot and you like to use coupons and save money, then you should definitely sign up before you purchase anything else online. There are over 1,200 stores available and you can access coupons and get cash back in addition to the amount you saved with the coupons.

For example, if you find a 20% off coupon to Nordstrom.com, you can also get 5% cash back by shopping through Ebates. All you have to do is go to Ebates.com and click on the Nordstrom link before you shop. This ensures that Ebates gets credit for your purchase so Nordstrom gives them the commission for the sale. Most online merchants have affiliate programs where they pay a commission on purchases for sending buyers to their sites. Instead of keeping the entire commission, Ebates shares a portion of it with you by awarding you cash back on your purchase.

There is nothing scammy or shady about Ebates at all. In fact, it was actually started by former Deputy District Attorneys who used to prosecute online fraud and identity theft in Silicon Valley. There is absolutely no risk in using the site to shop online. All you have to do to sign up is give them your email so they can notify you when your cash back has been credited to your account. There are no fees, no forms to fill out, and no points to redeem. You even get a $5 bonus when you sign up.

I have been using Ebates since 2008 and I have never had any problems with them. Every time I have made a purchase through the site, the cash back has always been posted to my account and I have always received my checks when they were supposed to come. Remember that the checks come every 3 months, so you may have to be a little patient. You can choose to get a check in the mail or have them deposit the cash into your paypal account.

I guarantee there is no Ebates scam! I honestly cannot say anything bad about it, and if you like saving money, then you will love Ebates. You will only wish you had joined sooner. I know when I first joined, I started kicking myself that I did not find out about it sooner. I kept thinking about all the purchases that I could have been getting cash back on.

Once you join, I promise you will be glad you did. You can tell all your friends about it and Ebates will give you $5 for every friend you get to sign up. Your friends will also get a $5 bonus, plus they will be saving money on their online purchases, so everybody wins.

Get your $5 bonus and start saving money right now by clicking the sign up box below.

I use ebates to buy all of my textbooks. They give anywhere from 2-6% on half.com, textbooks.com, textbooksrus and a couple more. I find the cheapest copy and then use ebates. Every semester I get at least $25 back. It’s great in college!

I’ve been using Ebates for a year and a half now and I’ve been paid $667. They either pay you by check or to a paypal account every 3 months. I’ve never had a surge of spam e-mails or anything like that as a result of using their site, and even better is that they have compiled all of these wonderful offer codes to use on merchant websites. These offer codes are for things like free shipping, $ or % off your purchase, or free gifts with purchase. You get so much more value for your shopping dollar, and the quarterly payments make it even sweeter. I buy all of my makeup and haircare items online and I now have quite a LARGE stash of freebies and samples thanks to ebates offer codes that I used at my favorite sites like Sephora, Ulta, Lancome, etc.

I’ve been reading a lot of comments about ebates.com. Some say it’s a scam; while other say it is not. Here is my take on it. I joined in April 2012, bought a pair of shoes from Finishline.com using the ebates site. I was very impressed that I could take $10 off my sale to begin with. The stuff I order from Finish Line is typically part of the sale exclusions so they never qualify for any discounts. It didn’t matter with ebates, I was still able to take $10 off my purchase. This made me very happy.

It took a few days for my account to be credited with any money from the purchase, but then I saw a $5 pending credit. Wow. I thought they are actually going to pay me. Too good to be true. We’ll see if I actually get the check. Well, yesterday I received my check for $5. It isn’t much but it’s something and so far I’m glad I started using this site. They did run a special promotion for $10 Target giftcard when you sign up and make a qualifying purchase. I haven’t received this yet, but even if I never get it, hey I’m able to get discounts on things that I buy that I normally would not get a discount on. That’s awesome.

So within days of my first purchase through ebates, I went back and went to Finishline.com again. This time I didn’t get the credit and I think it is because my session timed out or something. I still received $10 off my purchase, but nothing credited to my account.

Bottom line is this. Even if it only works half of the time, something is better than nothing. :)

Happy shopping all!

I have been a member of ebates since 2008 and have earned a little over $240. I have noticed I have not had any trouble with ebates. I have noticed that I have to be careful when using it. I have to make sure I am signed in. I have actually pulled up ebates and used it only to find I never signed on. Also, I have to be careful when using a coupon code from some coupon site that it is not from one of those click on this link and you get the discount. I do not use them as I have no idea who is tracking it.
Even if they missed giving you credit for a few. I feel anything is better than nothing. You would have bought it anyway so you are not loosing anything.

What can I say? If I am happy I will not search internet and find a place to say bad things about ebates. I used ebates for a few years. their service is worse and worse. 8.5 out of 10 purchases are not credited to your account automatically. You have to remember everything, date and store, and save the copy of your purchase receipt, then sand them a request cash back email. good thing is at least half of the requests get credited to your account right away. but it makes me wondering if they intended doing that, so people will forget their cash back. Then the other requests got ignored or denied, not because you did not do it right at the purchase but some other issues. For example, I booked one hotel each day for 6 days. None of them got automatically added to my cash back. When I submitted one request for each booking, only one is credited, the others are denied saying it is duplicated request. That is not the first time I have trouble with ebates. Just we are trying to save some money, but their services wear me out, gave me so much trouble, wasted so many time to submit requests, and when I could not find my receipt form email box, I can not even ask for cash back. Pure headache using ebates. I will not using ebates anymore.

I was a happy, loyal customer of Ebates.. I made a few purchases, and all transactions were as described in their advertising.UNTIL, I made an $8000 purchase from from Frontgate. Long story short- depending upon which customer service member responded to my “where’s my cash” inquiry, I received a different answer. They told me to go thru Frontgate; Frontgate had no idea what Ebates was and couldn’t help. (Frontgate has fantastic customer service!). At first told me that they couldn’t find my tracking ticket. I provided proof…. After months of back and forth communication , Ebates informed me that they couldn’t find that the order originated thru their site. The tracking ticket was easily visible on their own website. So- no more Ebate participation from me!

Ana December 4, 2011 at 2:42 am

I’m not interested in the cash back. I could care less. I purchased my order through ebates and I’m nervous that I would receive my order. The tracking code that was sent to my email, does not track my order. Have they just taken my money and not plan on sending my purchase? Has anyone experience this before through this site?

admin December 6, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Ebates is not the site that sends your order out, they just offer cash back on shopping at other online merchants. Where did you make the purchase? For example, if you click a link on Ebates to make a purchase at Old Navy, then you would need to refer back to the receipt/order confirmation that you received from Old Navy. The tracking ticket from Ebates is not the order confirmation, but rather just the proof that you went through Ebates in order to get your cash back.

Just my 2 cents. I’ve been a member of Ebates since 2008 and have earned $1,153.28 since I joined. I shop for my business and my personal use, and always use Ebates to earn a little bit back on each purchase.
It isn’t a scam. It’s the real deal.

Chris Collier June 5, 2011 at 2:27 pm

I have been a member of Ebates since 2004 and have earned over $750.00!! Don’t tell me or my saving account this is a scam. This $100.00/year has helped greatly on my vacation each year. It’s FREE money..get REAL!!!!!!

Rodney Younger May 7, 2011 at 2:13 pm

I’ve been a member for almost 2 years and at first I was apprehensive but OMG! I do most of my shopping on line because I don’t have time to go out and shop and I hate large groups of people. Anyway, this is not a scam, over the past year I’ve received back at least $200 plus in checks from Ebates on the items I bought. The daily doubles are great! I bought Magazines for Christmas gifts when Magazines.com had their big sale on at 50 off plus double coupon which was 10% so the gifts cost me merely pennies for three people’s gifts.
Long story longer…don’t hesitate to use the site..you will be not be disappointed

I have been a member of Ebates for a few years now. I love it! I recently had to buy a new dishwasher and ordered through Ebates and have a $15.00 rebate coming for that purchase alone. I have received other checks through the years from them. They ARE legit!

Joanne April 10, 2011 at 12:20 am

I love Ebates! I just received my first check from them that covered all of my rebates from Christmas purchases and it was almost $95.00! I have absolutely no complaints at all. I did end up with my first check delayed because I had accidently ignored an email from them asking for me to confirm that my mailing information was correct. As soon as I did this, I got my check. I highly recommend this site to anyone who does a lot of online shopping. I even use it for Ebay…all those pennies add up fast!

rohit March 4, 2011 at 10:58 am

At the sign up i was told that I am gonna get $5 bucks when i make eligible purchase, so I purchased a laptop through them. I still have the tracking number and everything but my account did not show anything. I emailed Ebates about it they asked me for tracking cookie and proof of purchase, so I sent them both. I got a response stating that they cannot give me credit because the merchant has given credit to some other site. I said this is not my fault and they said they cannot do anything. So do not waste your time.

I’m sorry that you had a bad experience with Ebates. Unfortunately, what happened to you was that you must have clicked on another affiliate link before you clicked on the Ebates tracking link. This can happen if you have been researching a product and went to a website that contained an affiliate link.

This is common when you are reading product review sites. A product user will put up a review and at the end, there will be a link that is actually an affiliate link to the product, so when you make a purchase, they will receive a commission. These websites are all over the internet and you may not even realize you are clicking on the affiliate links.

For this reason, it is very important to clear all of your cookies before you click on the Ebates tracking link. This will clear any other affiliate links you may have clicked on before. What I do is actually use another browser when I’m using Ebates because then I know for sure that I would not have clicked on any other affiliate links because I was using a different browser. So if I’m browsing in Internet Explorer, I’ll open Firefox and make the Ebates purchase through that browser.

Stores will usually only give a commission to the first affiliate that got credit for your purchase. This is not Ebates fault. If they do not receive a commission for your purchase, they cannot give you cash back. The whole point is that they share the affiliate commission with you. They do not just pay you money for making purchases without getting some of the commission themselves.

I definitely disagree with rohit about a waste of time I joined only a couple months ago and we are already over $140 if that is not worth your time than please share your excess cash with me

Richard Ambrose March 2, 2011 at 4:24 pm

You must work for Ebates. If there is no scam what happened to the bonus money I earned on purchases made in November and December 2010? It was to be paid to me starting in Feb 2011. Now the site says May 2011. That is six months after the purchase was made. I am owed a total of $59.75 as per their records.

Melissa December 14, 2011 at 5:19 pm

Yep I agree with admin. mypoints is the same the credit is not posted until the return period has passed

admin April 9, 2011 at 12:31 am

I definitely do not work for Ebates. I have been a customer since 2008 and have never had any problems with them as you have described. My best guess as to what happened is that your purchases for November and December 2010 were not confirmed until some time in January 2011. That would put them in the May payment period. The reason that some purchases are not confirmed right away is because some stores will not pay out affiliate commissions until the return period has elapsed.

Ebates explains this on the website: “Most cash back rewards are credited within 48 hours. Some stores, however, cannot confirm your purchase until the return period has elapsed and may take up to thirty days to confirm your cash back.”

When you return an item, Ebates does not receive a commission on the purchase, so they will not pay cash back for the returned item. Some stores will not pay out affiliate commissions until after the return period has passed rather than paying out a commission and then taking it back later on if an item is returned.

The bottom line is that when Ebates receives the commission for your purchase, you will get your cut from them at the next payment date. Just because the payment was delayed until May does not mean that you will not receive it eventually.
